One of the two Indo-Aryan languages almost confined to the frontiers of Tamil Nadu is Saurashtri (Saurashtra lan- guage). The other one is Vaagri Booli of the Kuravas. When Tamils hear of Saurashtri language, their mind would instinc- tively recollect the renowned playback singer of the Tamil film industry Late T.M. Soundararajan who was a Saurashtrian by birth. The language, as the name indicates, evolved in the Saurashtra region of Gujarat, but the speakers for some rea- son migrated to the South, with zero representation in their place of origin. Though Saurashtri has its own unique script, Tamil script is commonly used since all the speakers are also conversant with Tamil. This is the reason why the first transla- tion of the Kural into Saurashtri appeared in 1980 itself
